Description: Color sketch by artist Archie Boyd of a scene of Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. Sketch is mounted on an original roofing slate tile from an old building c.1700's. Measures approximately 6x8" and has a leather tie for hanging. Previously displayed and in excellent condition. I also have several other similar, larger pieces available for sale, see my other items. The back reads: Roofing slates mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers raft, became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795. Each one was individually hand shaped. This one came from one of the old buildings in the Vieux Carre area and dates back to the late 1700's and early 1800's. Rue Bourbon Known the world over for entertainment, Bourbon Street also boasts many interesting, historic buildings. One in particular is Jean Lafitte's "Old Absinthe House" begun almost two centuries ago. It was erected by Pedro Frout and Francisco Juncadilia of Barcelona, to house food, tobacco, and Spanish liquor. One tale is that it was here that the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte and "Old Hickory" himself Andrew Jackson plotted the battle of New Orleans. Produced in New Orleans Artistic Sketches Jefferson LA.
