Description: About your collectible AIRCRAFT TYPESupermarine Spitfire Mk. VbPilot: Ace Robert Stanford TuckRoyal Air Force 124 Squadron HISTORYWing Commander Robert Roland Stanford Tuck was a British fighter pilot and flying ace. He joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1935 and first saw combat during the Battle of France over Dunkirk. By September 1940, he was promoted to squadron leader, commanding a Hawker Hurricane squadron. Tuck participated in fighter sweeps over northern France in 1941–1942. On January 28, 1942, he was shot down by anti-aircraft fire, forced to land in France, and taken prisoner. At the time of his capture, he had claimed 29 enemy aircraft destroyed, among other achievements. Tuck's first combat patrol on May 23, 1940, over Dunkirk, saw him shoot down three German fighters. He continued to achieve numerous victories, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) on June 11, 1940. His combat successes continued during the Battle of Britain, although he was forced to bail out on August 18, 1940. He was promoted to acting squadron leader on September 11, 1940, and led his squadron to further victories. Tuck's final wartime mission was on January 28, 1942, when he was shot down over northern France and captured. He was held at Stalag Luft III and later escaped in February 1945, eventually returning to England.
