Description: "Atlantis" 2 Pencil Layout Drawings Leviathans Attacking City Tom Shannon Disney "Atlantis" 2 Pencil Layout Drawings Leviathans Attacking City Tom Shannon Disney Click images to enlarge Description Atlantis: The Lost Empire, two original black pencil and crayon layout drawings of the leviathans flying to attack the city of Atlantis that was part of the initial sequence showing the sinking of the city by layout artist Tom Shannon but eventually was not used in the production of the 2001 Walt Disney animated feature film Atlantis:The Lost Empire, each about 8 3/4 by 4 inches on slightly larger sheets of paper, in very good condition (there are multiple pinholes in the four corners of each drawing). The drawings were the first two parts of a sequence in which the leviathans attacked Atlantis; however, in the movie, Atlantis was only attacked by a large tidal wave. With the drawings is a copy of a two-page report entitled "Atlantis City Design Meeting" that took place on January 22, 1998 that comments favorably on Shannon's designs of the city and also recommends that Shannon include more Mike Mignola designs in his conception of the city of Atlantis. Mike Mignola was hired to put his artistic stamp on the design and look of the movie. The leviathan was one result of this choice.Tom Shannon worked at Disney for over 20 years as a layout artist in story development and was tasked with designing the visual elements of several environments in the Atlantis movie including the overall look of the city. Tom Shannon's job was normally to develop visual details including those in characters, backgrounds, and sequences before the final script was approved and animation began. He worked on many Disney films including Aladdin, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, and Mulan.
