Description: ATQ Hail and Farewell To Pacific Railroad Woodcut +4 Sheets from bound volume of Harper’s Weekly, July 10, 1869. The full page print depicts a Pacific Railroad engine rounding a bend while a Native American man lies in wait to ambush the train. The next sheet includes an accompanying essay which argues for that the disregarded pleas of the Indians was as just a cause as abolition, and urged the tribes to continue to destroy the railroad passing through their lands until they were justly treated. An interesting (and rare) perspective in which the indigenous peoples of the American West were not treated as the enemy, but rather just warriors in protracted battle for their human rights. Additional engravings/prints appear on following pages depicting other current events of the period. (See photos.) Condition is excellent for 150 year old newsprint, but there are wrinkles, creases and other mild forms of wear. Paper is still supple. Shipped flat, bagged and carded. 16 x 11.
