Description: ATQ 1891 LETTERHEAD REQUEST TO SILVERTON COLORADO POSTMASTER MINE STOCK INFO Unique & Rare! Silverton, Colorado mining-related ephemera. Beautiful, handwritten letter in fountain pen ink. From Summit City Galvanized Iron Works in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Addressed to the Postmaster of Silverton, CO. Gentleman is requesting “the address of some good, respectable mine stock broker” and included an envelope and stamp to return inquiry. Written at bottom of the letter is the name James H. Robin. Research found that James H. Robin was a prominent citizen of Silverton. Entrepreneur, business owner, mine owner, real estate broker and bank president, politician and community activist. He was involved heavily in the acquisition and development of mines and milling corporations including: The Iowa Gold & Milling Co., The Tiger Mining & Milling Co., The Silverton Deep Mining & Tunnel Company, The Royal Tiger Mine. Tragically, James H. Robin shot himself in January of 1903 due to stress from the termination of the sale of The Silver Ledge Mine to the Guggenheim syndicate of investors and the rapid failure of The Iowa operation. Will include a few print outs of research findings as well. The letter measures 8x11”. In good, antique condition. Small tears at fold edges right and left. Minor edge wear and corner creases. Please review photos. An exceptional, historic piece of Colorado mining history. Thanks for looking!
