This is an original hand-colored print - #252 - from the royal octavo first edition of John James Audubon's Birds of America, published 1840-1844. Lithographed, printed, and colored by J.T. Bowen, Philadelphia, 1840-44. The first octavo edition was produced under the direct supervision of John James Audubon and features strictly hand-coloring. The credits are in italics, as required. Gorgeous upper tier print, #44 in a ranking of the 50 most collectible Audubon octavos. Comes in a plastic protector, and will be sandwiched between wider foam boards for mailing.
