OnchopristisAuthentic Sawfish Rostral BarbOnchopristis is an extinct genus of sawfish from the Cretaceous of North Africa, Europe and North America. Like other sawfish, it had a long rostrum with large tooth like denticles similar to other sawfishes. This feature was convergently evolved, and its closest living relatives are skates. Isolated rostral denticles are the most common fossils. Onchopristis are characterized by a long, narrow, flattened rostrum, or nose extension, lined with sharp transverse teeth arranged in a way that resembles a saw. Modern day sawfishes are among the largest fish with some species reaching lengths of 23-25 feet. They are found worldwide in tropical and subtropical costal marine and brackish estuarine waters, as well as freshwater rivers and lakes. We have about 30 other authentic Fossil & Mineral specimens in display cases. Please see our other listings.
