Description: Fluting on a projectile point is a longitudinal flake removed after the point is otherwise finished, forming a groove from the base of the point to the tip for Folsom style points, and approximately one third the length of the point for Clovis style points. Oddly, this practice shows no utility for the points effectiveness, nor for its ease in attaching it to a shaft. Fluted points only appear in North America, and only by Folsom and Clovis people. For most people, fluting results in about a 60% breakage rate, which is why I charge a little more for my fluted points.
