Description: Straight from a storage unit in Temecula, Calif. comes this original OLD FRENCH / BAYONET SWORD AND SCABBARD DATED 1878......There are several numbers and engravings on this sword, but I cannot make them all out....Whats strange about this sword is that it features a triangle shaped blade and is engraved with what looks like USINE DE STEYR 1878......The scabbard is also a dark color and looks almost like the bluing on a gun......I talked to a couple of sword experts and they told me it was first produced in 1874 by the French and was designed by USINE DE STEYR and called a T Back Sword or Bayonet for the 11 mm Gras Rifle and it was manufactured in Austria....and from my research I've found and I know it sounds crazy, but in 1873 the French were at war with Vietnam and this weapon was probably used there......The Sword is still in great shape with no breaks or chips, and with the handle it measures right at 25 1/2 inches, with the blade measuring 20 inches long....To save on shipping, the new owner is welcome to pick up this piece at my home in Hemet, Calif....OR....will pay shipping of $27.85 anywhere within the lower 48 states....* Good Luck and Thanks For Reading This *
