Description: I'm offering a nice lightly circulated example of a Bank of Canada 1954 Landscape Series Queen Elizabeth II (Modified Portrait) One Dollar ($1) Banknote with the Beattie-Rasminsky signature combination (Pick# 74b CH# BC-37b). Initially printed by Canadian Bank Note Company Ltd. and later by British American Bank Note Company as well, the face of the $1 note features an engraving of Queen Elizabeth II based on a Karsh portrait that appears on all denominations in the series. The portrait was moved to the right to eliminate wear from folding. It was felt that the change from a decorative frame to a soft vignette would make counterfeiting more difficult. The Saskatchewan prairie scene on the back was engraved by Carl Louis Irmscher of the American Bank Note Company. Obverse: English texts on the left and French texts on the right. A black and white frame decorated with abstract forms in which the values ‘1’ and ‘ONE / UN’ are presented. On the right is a portrait of Elizabeth II, the new Queen of England and the Commonwealth. Background color of the banknote is green. Reverse: In the middle, view of a cloud-laden prairie near Fleming, Saskatchewan with the legendary ‘Trans-Canada’ road. Background color of the banknote is green. This is a lightly circulated, but still crisp note with sharp corners. There are visible fold marks, but no stains, tears or pinholes. Personally I would grade the condition of this note as Very Fine (VF+) to Extremely Fine (EF/XF). Since I am not an expert in grading paper money, please examine the photos carefully and make your own judgement on the condition. I obtained this note from my late father-in-law and it has been stored in the numismatic collection of my Covid, smoke, animal and kid-free home ever since.
