Description: Barbara COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE: a sheer balconette bra in brown mesh, then a camouflaged pattern of flowers in brown, tan, pink, beige and gold are cut out and applique'd onto the mesh, over-embroidered with fine brown threads outlining the flower details, and embroidered with heavier lines around the outside. These flowers are mysterious, they could almost be butterflies. The colours used reflect back to the vegetable dyes used back in the sixteenth Century, antique colours, standing the test of time with their beauty and harmony. Style 56531. The Commedia dell'Arte was an early form of Italian theatre with stock characters, improvised jokes, like pantomine, with harlequin costumes. In this collection I feel one is asked to wear this as if feeling like a flower, a butterfly today, with exaggerated warm colours, a camouflage in stripes to say : this is who I am today! I also embrace the fact that as early as the 1560's the female roles were played by women, making them the first known female actresses in Europe since antiquity - this makes this collection resonate even more with me, as an homage to those groundbreaking sisters of that epoque. These women were brave, rebels. With this collection you can feel the weighty layers of meaning and yet this textile is very soft to touch, delicate but visually strong. THE CUPSThe underwired, soft cup balconette bra is in sheer brown mesh with a dart up from the middle of the under-wires to near the top, to help shape these cups. The outside of the cups are covered with brown mesh, applique'd over with delicate fabric printed with a patchwork or shapes and colours, but defined as flowers by the brown embroidery, outside the embroidered edges the fabric is just cut, not folded. The movement in this pattern helps to disguise the vertical dart in each cup which helps shape the fabric over the cups. The printed flowers also cover part of the underwires and these are picked out with brown stitching. The printed fabric continues to cover the section in between the cups, with a vertical seam down the centre, lined inside with more brown mesh for added strength in this area. The mesh and some of the petals just rise over the top edge of the cups, edged with brown overstitching and leaving soft shapes against the skin, inside there is a narrow band of clear plastic to help keep the cups close to the breast and to stop the edges from curling. THE WINGS, BACK AND FASTENING OF THE BRA:The wings and back are unlined, in sheer brown mesh. The wings back and under-arm sections of the cups are all edged inside with flat brown elastic with a tiny ribbed trim which shows outside the folded in mesh. The two are secured to each other with large brown zig-zag stitching. The back fastens with three double rows of brown hooks and eyes on brown fabric. THE STRAPS: The front straps are in a brown flat elastic with a layer of the patterned, printed fabric folded in and sewn down each outer edge to the elastic below, rising over the shoulder to be looped over a brown ring, and sewn in place. At the bottom of the front straps, they are sewn inside the top of the cups. The back straps are in a similar width flat brown elastic but its satin sheen shows as well as the satin fine band running up either side, like two narrow borders. These back straps loop through the top ring and adjust downwards with a brown metal butterfly slider. The bottom of the back elastic straps are sewn inside top and bottom flat elastic, edging the inside of the wings and back. The exact material of the bra is made of 54%Polyester, 43%Polyamide, 3%Polyurethane. It is a thought provoking bra, sheer yet camouflaged and also supportive. The retail price was £51.50. New and unused. This may be machine or hand washed at 40 degrees, no ironing, no bleach, line dry.
