Make it yours while it’s available! Beautiful John Juzek 16” German Viola Circa 1950 For sale is an estate sale old viola. The estate seller said that this viola was found in his grandfather's attic. It has original case that is in very good shape, but no bow. The viola has an inside label that states: John ZuzekViolinmaker in Prague There is no date, serial number, or model information on the label. The seller cannot verify the authenticity of the label. Online research reveals that this viola most likely resembles/similar to, judging by the unique scroll characteristics of the nut and the back beneath the nut, (see 2 pictures before the hairline crack pictures, compare to the last 2 pictures of the music store store description with picture), a viola on sale by a music store with the description as the following, “This viola was commercially made in a large German workshop after WWII. The Juzek firm was first located in Schönbach, Czechoslovakia prior to the war. After the WWII Robert (the son) and John Juzek moved the company just over the border into Germany. There is no date, serial number, or model information on the label. Many of these instruments were made under contract that John Juzek secured with the New York City Public Schools, U.S. Teacher Colleges and other U.S. city public schools in the 1950's. This instrument is a better grade trade viola with a higher quality varnish and all newly carved fittings. This viola is a little deeper in the ribs at 36.0 mm and the varnish has that traditional older orange-brown look with a slight touch of red all on a golden ground. The varnish contains a beautiful patina and plenty of natural wear.” The viola is in fully functional conditions as shown in pictures. The viola is amazingly beautiful for its age, with only a few noticeable dings. There is a visible hairline crack on the right upper top (see two pictures of the viola, before case picture). The crack was not opened yet, being stopped by upper purfling. The seller sealed the crack with hide glue, as shown in the pictures. Shipping to continental 48 states only.
