Description: African Descent female figure standing with basket on head signed by artist. 9.5 inches tall, 3 inches wide, weighs less than 6 ounces. The style of dress looks like 20th century. This feels very dense like a hardwood, very smooth, not sure of tree type. If anyone knows tell me. Pretty sure I bought this at an African Festival in Madison, WI in the 1980s.I don't think it is from Africa, looks more American. It reminds me of the Realism style of Thomas Hart Benton who worked during the 1920s-30s. He was a painter not a carver but he celebrated rural workers. Artist's name appears to be signed Leon.
