You must pass the following two tests to confirm: 1.) The faceplate on your trunk mounted GPS has a white DVD logo in the middle 2.) Press the Menu button. Select Settings. This software update of your MK4 system has nothing to do with updating the navigation road maps, and irrelevant of the version of the road map disc you currently have. Be careful of other vendors that claim to be certified German or BMW products. There are highly hacked versions out there known as 32.x, that are not BMW certified products. They have reported issues with performance, slow imaging, and other glitches. There is a "Night Mode" hacked version floating around for the map views, but it only works in color setting 2, and it has many glitches such as hard to read street names or no street names at all, voice issues, and issues with the startup logo not displaying every time you enter the car.
