It feels like velvet. From what is stamped inside this hat I believe this was purchased in Italy. Possibly at the B. Casazza Company in Genoa / Genova. It’s marked as a size 4-1/2, I’ve never been able to find a conversion chart for that sizing. Here are my measurements: Side to side: 6-1/4” Front to back: 7-1/2” The inside diameter of the leather sweatband is 21” which corresponds to 6-3/4 or 6-5/8 hat size, a Small. There is a very detailed and fancy label inside the hat that was hidden under a thin membrane, I ended up damaging the membrane trying to get a picture of it. The original owner’s initials are in gold foil J. D. S. on the inside. Some people with the initials J S Jimmy Stewart, John Steinbeck, Jerry Seinfeld and any number of other celebrities who probably didn’t own this hat. 😊 The triangular box that it came in measures 11” x 4-1/4” x 2-3/4” I won’t be putting the hat back in the box for shipping but it will be included then both the hat and the box will be placed in another box for shipping. So this 4-1/2 could fit more like a 6-7/8 or even smaller”.
