Description: John W. Day's Shoe Store1263 Washington StreetBoston, MA This antique cabinet card photo shows John W. Day's shoe store that was located at 1263 Washington Street in Boston, MA. I verified the location through an article that appeared in the June 7, 1882 issue of The Boston Globe. The article includes the name of the store and the address. (The street number, 1263, may be seen on the striped awning in the picture.) The article heading was for the Boston Highlands neighborhood. This item likely dates to the 1880s and shows one of Boston's historic gas street lamps on the corner. The building is long gone. It would have been on the south end of what is now Peters' Park. Measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/4" There is wear to the corners and edges, including some corner damage. There is also a tear that starts at the top edge that may be seen in the photos. Please see the images provided, as they're part of the description.
