Description: The January 1978, U.S. - Mexico bilateral treaty amendments lifted prior Mexican restrictions on through flights between the U.S. and South America via Mexico City, and enabled Braniff to launch direct service from Dallas / Fort Worth to some of the points on its route along the western part of South America. Many of the covers reported by Dallas / Fort Worth Airfield as dispatched were never returned to their senders, so all these covers are rather scarce. This cover was one of only 79 pieces of mail carried on the August 16, 1978 inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 34 flight from the Dallas, Fort Worth, Texas Airport Mail Facility to Bogota, Colombia (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail Flights (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F34-100Fa.
