Description: This is a very Ornate hand crafted brass plaque / wall hanging....very large 23 inches and heavy. It does have a brass hanger attached to the back. This sample seal of the ancient Indus Valley demonstrates the significance of animals in the Indus Valley. Animals, such as the bull, were necessary for farming and agriculture to become successful. Domestic animals were used to control farming tools and mechanisms and cover wide areas of land that people could not cover alone. People in the Indus River Valley respected the bull not only for it's advantages for agriculture, but it also had a religious significance. The symbol of the Goddess, Shiva, was the bull. People worshiped and sacrificed bulls to the Goddess to please her and ensure a good place and role in their next life. the bull was often depicted on seals and was thought to possess power. This item has several dings and discoloration in the brass and I have no idea how old it is. There is a slight break in the brass just behind the collar area of the bull (see last photo). It is just as I found it at an Estate Auction. I have NOT cleaned it to preserve the patina! I have not been able to find another like this...I think it's one of a kind. I found something similar but it was in a Museum. Please see photos for details. If you want additional pictures of any area of the item please let me know. I've placed a white sheet behind it so you can see that it's punched out across much of the entire plaque. It is rather large and difficult to take photos of the entire item.
