Description: A very nice 1862 US Cavalry Sword, US Civil War era. This is a Model 1860 sword manufactured by Ames MFG, Chicopee, Massachusetts. Markings worn. Stamped with maker's mark "Ames, MF, Chicopee, Mass" on one side of the blade. Stamped with inspector's marks "US AD 36" on the other side of the blade. "ADK" are the initials of Andrew D. King. He was a US Armory inspector from 1840-1865. Wire bound leather grip, regulation triple bar brass hilt, brass pommel cap and guard. In it's original metal scabbard, with two mounting rings. All in overall good condition, some age wear overall. Overall length of sword 39.5 inches. Blade length 34.5 inches. Scabbard length 37.25 inches. Weight of sword and scabbard is 3 pounds 6.3 ounces.
