Description: Samuel Broadbent (1811-1880) began his career as an itinerant daguerrotypist, traveling through the south. He eventually arrived in Philadelphia in about 1851 and set up shop there, first doing daguerrotypes and ambrotypes prior to making the transition to paper photographs. According to my research, his shop on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia was called Broadbent and Company from 1859-1861. The photograph offered here is of a standing woman very formally dressed. On the reverse, there is a nice imprint with the name "Broadbent and Company, Chestnut Street, Philadelphia". Someone has made a pencil notation indicating that the image is of the writer's grandmother and that her name was "Julia B." This photograph is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
