Description: "By the dawns early light" Framed oil on canvas painting by Robert Christie, signed lower left. Size; 15" x 30" Framed size; 23" x 38" Although born and raised in New York City, Robert Christie has become one of the best known dog and sporting artists in the South. During his high school days, because of his love of animals, he considered veterinary medicine, but the pull of art proved stronger. After high school graduation, he studied fine arts at Ohio Wesleyan University for a year and a half before he returned to New York. There he studied illustration at and graduated from Pratt Institute. This was followed by postgraduate study of portrait painting at Pratt and at The Art Students League in New York. Later he moved with his wife, Beth, and their first daughter, Carolyn, to Beth's hometown, Atlanta, Georgia. Here, the main focus was painting portraits and gradually his work was expanded to include equestrian portraits. After a few more years, a publisher in New York asked him to do a series of hunting dog paintings for his print market. That's when Bob got 'bitten' by the dog, and he has been painting them ever since. Along with painting, he has spent over twenty years training, field trailing, hunt testing, and showing his German Shorthairs.
