C. 1890's IRON MULE PART FROM CLOWN & MULE ANIMATED TOY CAP PISTOL, IVES TOY CO.

Description: Original cast iron kicking mule figural component part from the rare clown & mule animated toy cap pistol. This item is a significant component of the toy animated cap pistol which was made by the Ives Toy Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut circa 1890's. The complete toy originally would have featured a mule & a clown standing on an ornate pistol form. The movement of the mule would explode a small cap. This mule is in operational condition as the spring inside of the mule still functions & still will activate the movement of his back legs. There is a projection in the iron at the bottom of his legs between his back hooves which would explode the cap. A complete example of the mule & clown cap pistol is listed & shown on page 230 item "AN6" in the second cap pistol book. There is some wear to the original finish. But, the mule still retains a considerable amount of the original transparent dark brown finish. The mule still retains some of the bottom section of his tail. But, the middle to the top section of his tail is missing. A seriously rare component part to a significant & elusive toy animated cap pistol. NOTE: we are offering only the mule component in this listing. We do NOT have the rest of the toy cap pistol. The mule measures 3 inches long by 2 5/8 inches tall & weighs in at 2.2 ounces.
