Description: c. 1890s Navajo Transitional Blanket, 76" x 56" This weaving is in very good condition. It only has one area which has a very pale spot, and one area in the center where the warp yarns peak through. The wool is very soft, and it has nice variegation to the wool colors. The warp count is 7, and the weft count is 20, per inch. Ex Rex Arrowsmith Estate: Arrowsmith was a long-time Native American trader and art dealer, who owned a shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico ‘Relics of the Old West,’ which opened off the Old Santa Fe Trail in 1950. He also participated as a judge at the Santa Fe Indian Market for many years, and served as president of SWAIA, Southwestern Association for Indian Arts. Please reference item T90105-1111-001. Handspun blankets of the late 19th century are known as Transitional Blankets because they signaled the end of Navajo blanket production and ushered in the era of the Navajo rug.
