Description: IMPORTANT ANTIQUE VIENNA EMPIRE STYLE BOX BY G. EDLAUER BIRDSEYE VIEW OF JOSEPH II IMPERIAL PALACE AT SCHONBRUNN after the circa 1780 engraving by Carl Schutz and Johann Ziegler A remarkably appealing achievement in underglaze fired enamel printing on copper plate. The flawless panel of gently domed profile in brass frame mounts at center of the exquisite bird's-eye maple veneered mahogany box trimmed in brass beadwork. The lid mounts on a brass piano hinge, opening to a spacious interior. A small brass plaque tacked to the underside identifies the prestigious Vienna merchant at Plankengasse 3. This rare box is in fine original condition, absent significant damage. NOTE: After cleaning and polishing brass with a specialty cloth, I applied multiple coats of traditional British Briwax. Each coat was hand rubbed. Clear wax was heated to liquefy, applied cross-grain and buffed to achieve a smooth glossy closed pore deep lustrous finish highlighting beautiful maple grain and colors.
