P. Nimmo, Hay, & Mitchell. Printed by Morrison And Gibb Limited, Edinburgh. This is not dated, but W. P. Nimmo, Hay, & Mitchell, are believed to have been active from 1883 until 1916, and this edition was most likely published in the late 1800s. Rev. P Hately Waddell was the present editor and he died in 1891. "The Pirate" is a novel written by Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish author and poet, and was first published in 1822. Set during the late 17th century, the story takes place in the Shetland Islands, located off the northeast coast of Scotland."The Fortunes of Nigel" is also a novel also written by Sir Walter Scott and was first published in 1822. It is set in the early 17th century during the reign of King James VI of Scotland and I of England. The novel combines historical events with fictional characters and is known for its portrayal of the social and political atmosphere of the time.Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a renowned Scottish poet, novelist, playwright, and historian. He is considered one of the most influential literary figures of the early 19th century and played a significant role in the development and popularisation of the historical novel genre. This does not come with a Dust Jacket, but the cover is stunning. This has a beautiful half-bound thick leather and marble paper boards. There is gilt lettering on the spine, over a black background. The panelled spine has gilt lines and decorations tooled into the leather. It is intact, robust, and in a very good condition for a book of this age. There is only light wear to the cover. This includes a little rubbing, light or small marks, light scratches, and light fading. Please see the photographs which I have provided for further details. Inside, the pages are lightly tanned, which is consistent for a book of this age. There is light foxing throughout, but besides this, the pages are in an overall neat and clean state, and uncreased. There is only the very occasional other small mark, and some marks on the marble pastedowns and endpapers. There is a small sticker for "A. Brown & Sons" "26, 27 & 29 Savile Street, Hull" pasted to the front pastedown. However, there is no pen or pencil written inside this book. There is just a very small rip at the bottom edge of page 304 and overleaf of “The Fortunes of Nigel”; but this does not affect the text. The pages are all tightly bound and secure. There are no loose pages, and there are no missing pages, and so all 376 pages of ‘The Pirate” and 392 pages of “The Fortunes of Nigel” are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 19 cm by 13 cm and 3.9 cm wide. It weighs approximately 711 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
