Description: Cal Ripken Jr. Rochester Red Wings 1981 Original Type 1 Snapshot Photo Rare Original, vintage early 1981 Type 1 snapshot photograph measures 3 1/2" x 5" and pictures a Cal Ripken Jr. with the Rochester Red Wings. In 1981 the Baltimore Orioles added Ripken to their 40 man roster. He spent all of spring training with the Orioles, but was sent to the Triple-A International League Rochester Red Wings to start the season. Ripken hit 23 home runs, batted .288 and had 75 RBI's in 114 games before being called up to the Orioles on August 7, 1981. He was the International League Rookie of the Year. One other interesting note about Ripken's season with the Red Wings - He started at third base and played all 33 innings against the Pawtucket Red Sox in the longest professional game ever, which took parts of three dates, April 18th, 19th and then the 33rd inning on June 23, 1981, to complete (the game also featured future Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Wade Boggs).
