Description: DESCRIPTION: Highly calcifiedJade sword finial. This piece would have been at the bottom end of a sword scabbard. The scabbard would have been made of wood and decorated with either lacquers, paints, or appliqué material such as leather. At the bottom there would have been a pin that fits into the hole that is at the top of this piece. It has a superficial shallow key fret design on the surface and is made of mottled nephrite jade. Han Dynasty, 206 B.C - 220 A.D. Highly calcified jade with conjoined cloud design carving. Claude Jackson (now deceased) was a well known West Coast artist who executed numerous fine works many depicting the great movie stars of early Hollywood. Several of his works have been published and those originals now reside in the collections of various noted individuals and institutions. Most notable probably is his depiction of Marilyn Monroe in his 'Red Kimono', 1975, published as the centerfold in Roger Taylor's anthology Marilyn in Art (1984).
