Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1860s illustrated journal. This antique print depicts Angkor Wat, a Hindu temple complex in Cambodia. Originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura (present-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaiva tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu.The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills about half of it, measuring about 9 x 6.25 inches, with a caption below it. The page is in excellent condition for its age except for a fox mark in the sky area.
