Measurements: 30" x 22" SHIPS CAREFULLY ROLLED IN A LARGE SHIPPING TUBE Robert Kakegamic was born in 1944 at Sandy Lake, a First Nation reserve, located in the northern regions of Ontario (Canada). He started drawing at an early age and found in nature one of his major inspirations, which is clearly seen in his works. The influence of the Woodland School of Art is also evident. Traditional cultural values and old legends are painted by Robert in vivid and bright colours, and are a part of the new way of presenting and expressing their First Nations identity. Robert often shows animal images in his works, and the use of huge yellow circles in the eyes are seen as a kind of an identification of his work. His brothers, the late Joshim and Goyce, are also well know for their art.
