Description: This book tells of a strong-willed man, with the help and support of his family and friends, beating cancer, twice! During the 700 hours of chemotherapy and during 92 days at the Stanford Medical Center for a bone marrow transplant, Kennon Carter kept a daily log. Then to take his mind from medical procedures, on the days he had the strength, he wrote about his outdoor exploits. This book intertwines his cancer battle with his adventures in a very uplifting manner. And, what adventures they are! Ken tells of fishing strong rivers like the Klamath and Trinity in Northern California; he takes us on a frenzied Wyoming antelope hunt; he climbs Half Dome in Yosemite; he gets mountain sickness after summiting Mt. Whitney. He tells of his first introduction to the phenomena known as “Bigfoot,” and of the curiosity that leads him to search for the elusive “being of the forest." Many of his recollections about tracking “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch” tell of mysterious events. Shiver to his descriptions of “night walkers,” and more, at Kate Camp, Thunder Mountain, Skookum Lake, and high up Indian Henry. Learn Oregon has genuine moonshining hillbillies, UFOs, “Wild Bears” and much more. But after some years of editing, Ken's medical experiences were edited into brief procedures and life as he wished to describe it, with few comments added. The two pages of excerpts in photos are examples of the exhaustive, tiring research Ken did to report virtually each day of his treatments. As cancer patients and their loved ones, and care givers know, there are few words that capture the essence of the ordeal, so as few words as possible were used. Some removed text is very emotional. The last photo, the trailer photograph, means much to this story of courage, hope, strength, and love of family and friends of all sorts. On a fun note, this book reads fast with many details; the index lists over 250 people, place names, and events. That’s a lot of index for a 201 page book. Each of the photos, and the many more not included, are described in All this is told in “Kennon of the High Country’s” colorful writing style that may make you cringe, grin, shake your head, or just maybe, laugh out loud. As with all my auctions, money back if not satisfied. While feedback is much appreciated, private eBay messages telling me what you think about the book will be invaluable. Thank you for looking. Also, this initial offering are of the first edition, first printing and will be so noted in the end papers.
