Born in 1878, Sandburg grew up with America. As a boy he played, studied, and matured in Galesburg, Illinois. Throughout this enjoyable memoir, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Sandburg's reminiscences deliver a nostalgic view of small-town life and a heartwarming perspective on American history. Provenance: This volume was formerly owned by the legendary San Francisco defense lawyer James MacInnis, whose name label remains on the book's ffep. MacInnis was involved in numerous high-profile cases (e.g., members of the Hearst family) but also worked quietly and without fee for people in need of representation. MacInnis and his wife were both tragically killed when their car was hit by a drunk driver who ran a red light. BONUS In 1978 the U.S. Post Office issued a commemorative stamp honoring Carl Sandburg.
