Description: Catan Expansion Pack - Cities and Knights (3 - 4 Player) (UK) An excellent expansion to the Catan base game, Catan: Cities and Knights, introduces new commodities and strategy to the game as you now have to defend Catan from the wild Barbarians whilst also competing for resources with other players. The three main changes from the base game are as follows: * introduces three new commodities: coin, paper and cloth, distinct from resources. Cleverly these are enhancements from the existing raw materials of Ore, Timber and Wool. These allow players to build city improvements that result in various advantages. * Development cards are replaced by three different decks, each corresponding to one of the commodities. Players have the chance to draw these cards on their turn by building city improvements * Players can place knights along their network of roads to claim certain intersections and also defend the island from the barbarians. When the Barbarians attack, if the island is successfully defended the the player with the most knights is rewarded. If unsuccessful, the player with fewest knights is affected. In Catan: Cities and Knights, you engage in the defense of Catan and compete to build the three great metropolises of Catan. Each of these magnificent urban centres is even more valuable than a city. They're also immune to the dangerous barbarians. Invest in city improvements, which you acquire using three commodities of trade: coin, paper and cloth. If you improve your culture, muster your knights and enrich your fine cities, you will become the master of the great realm of Catan! You must have the Catan base game in order to use this expansion.
