In 1826, the Chapin firm was established by Hermon Chapin (1799 - 1866) at Pine Meadow, Connecticut. with Daniel Copeland. In 1828, Chapin purchased Copeland's interest, and established the Union Factory under his sole proprietorship, producing a complete line of wooden planes. In 1860, the sons of Hermon (Edward M, George W, and Philip E) formed the H Chapin & Sons Company. After the turn of the century, almost all rules in the United States were made by the Lufkin Rule Company, Stanley Works, the Upton Nut Company, or H. Chapins Son & Company. In 1901, H. Chapins Son & Company merged with another company to become the Chapin-Stevens Company. The stock market crash of 1929, led to the collapse of Chapin-Stevens, and Stanley purchased the remaining assets. We are a Top Rated Plus eBay seller and stand behind every item we sell.
