Description: NEW Arcadia Publishing Charleston, SC 9781467114929 Postcard History Series Trad This collection of turn-of-the-century postcards represents Charleston 100 years ago. Compared to the city residents and visitors know today, the resemblance is remarkable; however, much has changed. The property that once housed the Orphan House became a Sears Roebuck and, later, the growing College of Charleston. The Mills House became the St. John Hotel in the early 1900s, but after falling into disrepair, the building was sold in 1968. It was replaced by a close replica of the original Mills House at the corner of Meeting and Queen Streets. These are just a few examples of the transformation seen in the "Holy City." While much of Charleston has evolved with modern times, more than enough of the past remains.
