Description: Fresh Chaya (also known as Mexican tree spinach) cuttings, cut upon order and shipped Monday through Wednesday so they do not sit in a hot box or truck over the weekend. These will be 5" long, freshly cut and will have a few leaves to indicate which side goes in the dirt. This is the maple leaf variety. Promptly plant in moist, well draining soil and keep moist until new leaves emerge. Chaya needs to be boiled for 10-15 minutes before eating. Delicious green in stir fry, soups, stews, etc. Do not eat raw. This is not really a tree, more like a tall shrub that will produce many branches as it grows. It is a perennial green in warm climates. In cold climates, frost will kill the stems, but it should return from the roots in the spring if your soil does not freeze. In very cold climates, keep in a pot and bring in for the winter (artificial lighting may be beneficial. Results may vary) You may add seeds to your order for no additional shipping charges.
