Description: Each one of these three (3) annuals is SIGNED by Grandmaster William J. Lombardy. Grandmaster Lombardy was World Junior Champion (11-0); he beat Boris Spassky in 1960 to take US Student Gold, played Board 2 for the US Men's team (1958, 1960), and while studying for the priesthood Bill coached Bobby Fischer, and acted as Bobby's "second" in the "saber rattling" 1972 World Championship match between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship_1972 GM Lombardy was also a Top 20 player (in 1961), according to Chessmetrics: http://www.chessmetrics.com/cm/CM2/PlayerProfile.asp?Params=195901SSS0S3S077019196005141100311300000010100 GM Lombardy's additional accomplishments are listed on the following websites: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Lombardy https://www.olimpbase.org/players-ind/p/p9dxbr3n.html https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=16188 https://www.365chess.com/players/William_James_Lombardy The working relationship between Fischer and Lombardy was kept a secret (as much as possible) so that the Russians would not look up all of Lombardy's games so as to obtain an advantage over the chess board. "Chess is a game of KNOWING your opponent's best and worst moves on the board," Lombardy once said. "I love to see my opponents' sweat," said Bobby Fischer. Lombardy first met Bobby Fischer in 1954 at the Brooklyn Chess Club. Carmine Nigro (Fischer's previous instructor) told Lombardy to take Fischer as a student because "I've already taught him everything I know." Lombardy asked Fischer what he wanted to do with chess. Fischer said, "Become world champion." Lombardy replied (as he personally told me when I studied with him some time ago), "First you must learn all of the endgames!" The next morning, Lombardy came in early to the Brooklyn Chess Club (he had a key). It was 8am in the morning and when Lombardy entered the club, he saw Fischer already studying. Fischer, at 11.5 years of age, had every single book on the endgames open on the table and he was studying it like a hawk studies its prey. It was then that Lombardy thought to himself (and later told me), "Maybe he will be world champion." I am selling these three (3) annual reviews at the lowest price you will find on the internet. The 1961 and 1962 ones are in Very Good condition. The 1968 one is in Good Condition (the imperfection on the outside of the bound cover is what keeps it from very good condition). Below are all three (3) annual reviews I am selling at the lowest prices I could find for each online (each price includes the shipping). Please Note: these are the prices other people are selling these books at. My price is near the bottom of the description! [Also, keep in mind that the prices you see listed are for unsigned copies of Chess Life Annual, whereas what I'm offering has the signature of a famous Grandmaster and coach].
