Description: This listing is for Three (3) cutting of Chicago Fig Cuttings, each cutting is 10 inches long The Chicago Hardy Fig (Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy') is a cold-hardy fig variety renowned for its ability to thrive in cooler climates, making it a favorite for gardeners in northern regions. The tree itself is a fast-growing deciduous shrub that can reach heights of 10-15 feet, though it can be kept smaller through pruning. Its spreading habit forms a beautiful, dense canopy with large, deeply lobed green leaves that add lushness to any garden. Fruit Characteristics: The fruit of the Chicago Hardy Fig is small to medium-sized with a rich, sweet flavor and a deep brown skin when fully ripe. The flesh inside is soft pink and packed with honey-like sweetness. These figs can be eaten fresh, dried, or used in cooking, and the tree can yield two crops throughout the growing season. Cold Hardiness: This fig variety is remarkably resilient, tolerating temperatures as low as -10°F (-23°C) when properly mulched. Even if the tree dies back to the ground during winter, it often regrows vigorously from the roots in spring. Planting Zones: Chicago Hardy Fig is best suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 5-10. In colder regions (Zone 5-7), it's typically grown in a sheltered spot or provided with winter protection, while in warmer climates (Zone 8-10), it thrives with minimal care. Growing Conditions: This fig prefers full sun and well-draining soil. It performs best when planted in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant and requires little maintenance apart from occasional pruning to shape and remove deadwood. You will receive cutting similar to the one pictured, but not the one pictured. I will combine shipping for bulk purchases, check my other auctions for other fig varieties and buy as many as you want. The cutting will be from a live in-ground tree grown in the ground in zone 7A.
