Includes obi strip. --- White vinyl --- CHICO CÉSAR - AOS VIVOS (LP) Geleia Geral is the 90s, which are bringing everyone and everything together, like Tropicália at the end of the 60s,” declared Chico César to Bizz magazine in 1996, in a moment of lucidity that is not common for those who are in the eye of the storm. At that time, with only two albums under his belt, the singer and composer from Paraíba was already a regular on the Brazilian music scene. The line of singers recording his compositions was long: Maria Bethânia, Zizi Possi, Daniela Mercury and Elba Ramalho, among others. It was Chico César's friendship and partnership with musician and producer Egídio Conde that began to make his dream come true: recording an album. At the time, Egídio owned a mobile recording studio, Audiomobile, which he operated from inside an adapted Kombi van. A veteran of the scene, he had been a guitarist for iconic São Paulo progressive rock bands in the 1970s, such as Moto Perpétuo (the band that revealed Guilherme Arantes) and Som Nosso de Cada Dia. It was Egídio who convinced Chico that it would be a good idea to record his performances at Funarte's Guiomar Novaes room on three freezing winter nights: June 24, 25 and 26, 1994. The recordings were transformed into the CD Aos Vivos , originally released in 1995, containing the hits “Mama África” and “A Primeira Vista”, both in spontaneous and intimate versions. What follows is a young artist completely at ease on stage, confident in exposing wounds and achievements, whether in original material or in partnerships with Itamar Assumpção (“Dúvida Cruel”), Tatá Fernandes and Milton de Biasi (“Templo”), or even interpreting songs, by André Abujamra and his Karnak (“Alma Não Tem Cor”) to Luiz Gonzaga and Humberto Teixeira (“Paraíba”). Also noteworthy are the special appearances by Lenine and Lanny Gordin. Aos Vivos is one of the great debut albums of the 90s and features the music and perspective of Chico César, the Paraíba native who sees such southeastern tones in this beautiful and infamous ballet. The Rocinante/Três Selos reissue has a booklet with text by journalist and writer Bento Araujo. LADO A A1. Béradêro [Chico César] 3:03 A2. Mama África [Chico César] 3:35 A3. Born in Catolé do Rocha, Paraíba, in 1964, Chico César's music is deeply rooted in the cultural and social realities of Brazil, often featuring lyrics that address social issues, love, and the beauty of the Brazilian landscape. "Aos Vivos" - Album OverviewReleased in 1995, "Aos Vivos" is Chico César's debut album and a landmark in Brazilian popular music (MPB). The album was recorded live, capturing the raw energy and emotion of César's performances. "Aos Vivos" showcases Chico César's unique ability to blend diverse musical influences, from the northeastern Brazilian rhythms of forró and frevo to the lyrical richness of Brazilian folk traditions. The album features some of César's most iconic songs, including "Mama África," a track that became a hit and is celebrated for its catchy melody and poignant lyrics about the African diaspora and identity. Another standout track is "À Primeira Vista," which gained widespread recognition and was covered by several other artists. The song's tender lyrics and melodic structure highlight César's talent as a songwriter. Throughout the album, Chico César's voice is powerful and expressive, conveying a wide range of emotions. The live recording format adds an intimate and spontaneous feel to the album, making the listener feel as though they are present at one of his performances. "Aos Vivos" is a testament to Chico César's versatility as an artist and his ability to connect with audiences through both his music and his message.
