Description: Chief of the Counterfeiters or The Boy Detective by Old Sleuth, Arthur Westbrook Publishing Co., Cleveland, Ohio. Number 59 in the American Detective Series. This pre-historic paperback is digest size and contains two old sleuth novels, "The Boy Detective" and "The Mystery of New York Bay". According to the LeBlanc bibliography this Westbrook edition was published sometime in the 1920's and sold by subscription at 20c a volume or 6 for a $1.00. The American Detective Series has 59 known titles which this is the last. These two stories are reprints of Old Sleuth tales originally published by Beadle at the turn of the 20th century. Old Sleuth was a pseudonym of Harlan Page Halsey. Title page states a 1903 copyright by George Munro's Sons however according to LeBlanc portions first appeared as early as 1894. This copy measures 7" x 5" and is stapled with a paper cover. The book lies flat and square with bright covers and minimal edge wear. The pages are browned but not brittle.
