Description: OFFERED HERE IS A ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE CIRCA 1890'S TO 1910'S. NO WAY TO TELL EXACT AGE DATE FOR SURE BUT MANY ARTICLES OUT THERE BELIEVE THESE WERE MADE BETWEEN THE 1890'S AND 1910'S. Hand-colored etching on a translucent resin plate (10" x 7 ¾") neatly mounted in a Victorian brass colored cast iron base picture frame. The image is of a wood engraving by W.P. Snyder first published in Harper's Weekly in the August 31, 1889 issue under the title: "A Collegiate Game of Baseball". Snyder's drawing is notable for its depiction of mostly women sitting in the stands from behind home plate, with a baseball game in progress under a twilight sky. The seven or eight women depicted prominently in the foreground are shown sitting alone, with their attention not directed at the game on the field, but elsewhere. A remarkable engraving transformed by the resin plate into a more mysterious, three-dimensional like image. The image looks almost like a “Printers Plate” with deep etchings of every line in the picture and hand colored. This is NOT a print but a etching of the painting or print. Has W.P. Snyder and the date 1889 at the bottom etched into the picture itself. The picture frame itself is made of wood with finely detailed etchings around the frame. As mentioned the base is a brass colored cast iron or cast metal. Very heavy. the lower right corner is loose and pulled apart a bit. Overall excellent condition with wear and use of course with age. No returns unless the items was not described correctly. guaranteed vintage and authentic and not a recent re-production of any kind. I have been on Ebay since 1998 and have a 100% feedback.
