Description: DATING TO THE 1860’S NOTE THE SMALL SIZING OF THIS DRESS, IT IS FOR A YOUNG LADY. FASHIONED OF A WOOL AND SILK BLEND THAT IS TAN AND BROWN PINSTRIPED AND IS SEWN BY BOTH MACHINE AND HAND. SLEEVES ARE SET OFF THE SHOULDER AND ARE CRESCENT SHAPED WITH A BOTTOM IN A VELVET PIPING BUT NOTE THAT THE VELVET HAS VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE KNAP WORN AWAY. SEAMS ARE PIPED AT THE ARM HOLE AND BELTING WITH BAND COLLAR AT THE TOP. THE TOP IS LINED IN COTTON TWILL. THE SKIRTING HAS BEEN UNPICKED FROM THE WAIST AND NEEDS TO BE STITCHED BACK ALL ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE. THE INNER HEM IS TRIMMED IN POLISHED COTTON WITH WOOL BINDING AT THE EDGE. CONDITION: THIS PIECE IS SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED, NOTE THE CONDITION. THERE IS A SMUDGE STAIN ON THE CENTER FRONT SKIRTING THAT IS THUMBPRINT IN SIZE WITH SOME SMALL STAINING ABOVE THE BOTTOM CENTER FRONT HEM WITH SEVERAL OTHER SMALL TINY SPATTER SPOTS. EACH CUFF HAS WEAR AND FRAY TO THE EDGES WITH THE RIBBON MISSING ITS KNAP. THE REAR OF THE LEFT SLEEVE HAS TWO JAGGED BASTED REPAIRS AS PICTURED. THE REAR LEFT SKIRTING THAT APPEARS TO BE RUST WITH STITCH HOLES FROM AN OLD REPAIR THAT WAS RELEASED, POSSIBLY TO HIDE THE STAINING. THE TOP EDGE COLLAR HAS TINY FRAY AT THE VERY EDGE.
