Description: Claims of Labor workers 1844 Pickering Arthur Helps worker's rights leather book (Old Books, 19th Century Books, Leather Books, Capitalism, Labor, Worker's Rights). The Claims of Labour: An Essay on the Duties of the Employers to the Employed, by Arthur Helps. Published 1844, London by William Pickering 174 pages. Text in English. First Edition. Work discusses the duties of the employer to the employed. The author was an advisor to Queen Victoria and a highly regarded historian. Period full leather binding, raised bands, gilt compartment decorations & bands, gilt title lettering on leather label (now faded), marbled edges and end papers. Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Book is not new or in "new" condition. Binding gently age worn but still appealing, leather rubbed but still supple, joints slightly scuffed, spine neatly rebacked long ago, lacks original title label, remains overall attractive as an object. Text block paper is gently toned, internally still well preserved, tight, sound. With early owners armorial book plate to front pastedown. Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this interesting social labor book survives. Book Measures c. 7" H x 4 1/2" W. [B4831].
