Description: Four excavated clay pipes dating to the 1840’s through the 1850 period. The Scottish thistle bowl could date earlier than 1840. They have been lightly cleaned and are solid but in “dug” condition. The earliest bowl forms (1600’s) are very small and are almost straight out from the stem. During the 1700’s the bowl was larger but still at a smaller angle than later types. By the 1860’s the bowl was almost (in most cases) straight up from the stem. The largest measures 3” They come as shown in a 5” x 6” riker display box. (Other pipes listed in “General Antiques” section) All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased.
