No chips cracks or nips The following is from the NJ bottle forum Charles Otis Johnson was the son of liquor distributor Moses H Johnson (born New Hampshire 1857, died Trenton Dec 13, 1883). Like Nathan Richardson the Johnson family had moved to Trenton from New Hampshire during the late 1860s. Charles and his wife Katie had one child Mary in 1879. Johnson is first listed in the 1877 city directory. The 1881 city directory lists C. O. Johnson & Co. as bottlers of lager beer and ale at 29 North Warren St. Moses lived at 44 Bank, Charles 28 Spring St. By 1886 During the 1880s Charles O Johnson & Benjamin P Reeder were in business together as C O Johnson & Company at 47 - 49 Hanover Street. Benjamin Reeder was Johnson's brother-in-law and business partner who at times operated a bottling business under his own name at 45 and 47 Hanover Street. About 1890 Reeder began working with John Schroth until his death in 1893. Charles's business was very successful. The CO Johnson company was still in business at 140 Perry Street in 1920 at the onset of prohibition.
