Description: 2 Syracuse China Dinner plates 10 1/2" in the Nature Studies Series made for The Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs, Virginia - owned & operated by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad which used the Nature Study series service plates in their hotel dining room. The Homestead has since changed ownership a few times and is currently owned by Omni Hotels and operates as a luxury hotel. Syracuse China Nature Study series consisted of 40+ different plates - all Homestead backstamped pieces are VERY hard-to-find. The original series was designed by head designer Harry Aitken. They are hand colored so no two are exactly alike. Only six plates in the series (#28-33) incorporated birds. Here I have number 28, The Cedar Waxwing, and number 30, The Robin. The Robin is pictured in Richard Luckin's book DINING ON RAILS - AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RAILROAD CHINA page 126 Condtion: they are unused. I dont see any damage or wear on them. I do see two glaze pits/skips on each.
