Description: Coin Auction Catalog, Harrie B. Price collection of US coins, Sept 11 and 12, 1935 Auction Catalog: The Harrie B. Price collection of United States coins, sale number 352Wednesday & Thursday, Sept 11 and 12, 1935 JC Morgenthau & Co.1 West 47th street New York 38 pages, plus 3 plates Auction contained among other things early US gold coins, southern branch mint gold, pattern gold coins, early silver dollars and pattern silver. This copy was owned by a celebrity of sorts, Ernest Kehr, see below. Catalog in excellent condition, cover has fraying on very bottom of binding. ( see photo) no sign of wear on pages, pages are good shiny paper, these don’t yellow or crack like cheap paper but a hint of patina. But Mr Kehr made very light small dashes in pencil next to items he was interested in. See below. Three plates. B&W photos very sharp, but I guess back then most coins at an auction not shown in photos. The name Ernest A. Kehr and address as PO Box 1 Richmond Hill, NY 11419 is stamped in ink on title page. Ernest A. Kehr (1911-1986) was an illustrious philatelist, and philatelic author. He had philatelic columns in three different major New York City papers and made numerous TV and radio appearances talking about stamps. Winner of numerous philatelic awards, the American Philatelic Society established The Ernest A. Kehr award in his honor. He is a member of the American Philatelic Society Hall of Fame. But he was also interested in coins. About 1970-71 he gave my late mother who knew him some items of his numismatic literature to give me, I would have just been starting my teens. Time is a thief. While this catalog does not come with the prices realized subsequent sheet, included with it, and found in it are two loose pieces of paper on which Mr. Kehr, over 85 years ago, wrote the prices the lots he was interested in went for!! A pattern gold Stella went for $127.50, a pattern 1836 dollar in gold went for $50.00 and a 1792 pattern half-dime, though with a hole, went for $11.00. I wish i could pay that much for those items today. Pattern gold Stella, 1935 in unadjusted dollars = dinner for two from third class restaurant, NYC, 2021 (takeout only).
