Description: Welcome to my listing for:Complete 1874 Daily Graphic Illustrated Large Newspaper Advertising 9/8 VG/EXCThe Daily Graphic: An Illustrated Evening Newspaper was the first American newspaper with daily illustrations. It was founded in New York City in 1873 by Canadian engravers George-Édouard Desbarats and William Leggo, and began publication in March of that year. Highly illustrated, its lavish engravings included cartoons, reproductions of paintings, and illustrations of contemporary news events and notable personalities. While pioneering, the paper was not a financial success, and Desbarats later returned to Montreal, with Leggo following at least by 1879. It continued publication until September 23, 1889 (Wikipedia)This came to me as part of a large, cared for and very well wrapped collection. It's safe to say that the inner pages should be in at least as good a condition as the front and back cover pages are. I elected to keep and photograph them wrapped. I would normally have more photos. Please forgive any reflections in the photos.Showing only minor signs of age, wear, toning and handling. Clean, dry and in very good condition. As were most of the daily newspapers of the day, this is a "large format" (14" x 20") with few pages - these were 2 or 3 folded sheets that, including the front and back cover pages, yield 8-12 pages. The illustrations are often humorous, large and feature many elements - and mostly always highly detailed. The reference value in the advertising alone is worth the price.
