Description: Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series AA34001Consolidated B-24J Liberator Diecast ModelUSAAF 43rd BG, 64th BS, #44-40973 The Dragon and his Tail, Le Shima Island, 1945Length: 11.25" Width 18.25" PLEASE READ - all photos shown are the ACTUAL MODEL THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE (these are not stock photos or pirated from another eBay listing!). While some of the models are new (never removed from the box) most of the models that I am selling have been displayed in a relatively dust-free cabinet and all are completely intact (no missing parts) - that is, THEY ARE IN NEAR NEW SHAPE. ALL HAVE BOXES (in most cases they are in good to great shape - if not, it will be noted). I have included numerous photos showing the models from various angles, along with the boxes. I tend to take the photos so they area a bit over-exposed because I believe that increased exposure better accentuates the detail (and any potential flaws). If there are issues with any of the models, this information will be included in this description. I some cases, especially with the Dragon Models, I have used scotch tape and/or small ziplock bags to keep the small parts in place in the plastic clam shell (Dragon has its own special tape tabs, which often don’t function well after the part is removed). A final word - I have been collecting diecast models for many years, always with the goal of displaying them in their full glory. Unfortunately, due to a Parkinson’s diagnosis, I am now forced to sell my collections. If you are looking for a model that you want to keep in the box and put it in the closet to sell as “new” later, and want the internal packaging to be exactly as it was sent out by the manufacturer, these may not be the models for you. This is especially true for the Dragon Models, which tend to have more fiddly bits that are more challenging to return to pre-opening (new) placement. That said, the Corgi airplanes are much easier to put back in their clam shell encloruses, so in many cases you would not know if they were new or not. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me! Thank you and happy collecting! Regarding this particular B-24 model - unlike most of my diecast collection, this airplane was not displayed in a cabinet. It was simply to large! I took lots of time with a make-up brush and a bottle of dust-off getting the model back to near newer condition. That said, is not new and there may be some dust remaining in the cracks and crevices. Examine the photos closely to make sure the model is up to your standards. The box is in a good condition. This astoundingly marked B-24 is considered to have one of the most colourful crew insignia of all time. 44-40973 The Dragon and His Tail first flew on 3rd June 1944 and was delivered to the AAF several days later. This gaudy, glorious and highly recognisable paint scheme was carried by The Dragon for most of its combat career and became famous for it. Based in le Shima, a place that was described by one crew member as a 'lump of coral in the Bonins', it fought throughout the Pacific as part of the 43rd Bomb Group. Consolidated B-24J Liberator Designed to fill a United States Army Air Corps need for a heavy bomber, the B-24 Liberator was first flown on December 29, 1939. The USAAC originally asked Consolidated to build the B-17 under license, but the company instead chose to submit a more modern design with greater speed, greater range and a heavier bomb load. Despite these advantages, the B-24 was more difficult to fly, had poor formation-flying characteristics, and was much more vulnerable to battle damage, which meant it never became the favored bomber among American aircrews. It did prove more than serviceable, however, especially for long-range missions. Corgi's 1:72 scale B-24 series includes the early war B-24D and late war B-24H and B-24J variants, with the notable addition of a nose gun turret and retractable ball turret. Corgi's WWII heavy bombers are some of the most sought after diecast models available in 1:72 scale. The large size and spot on recreation of the Liberator's distinctive shape has lead to this mold's popularity, along with such subtle details as simulated fabric control surfaces. The mold incorporates a large number of diecast components and includes a heavily constructed all metal display-stand is included to support this massive aircraft for in-flight display.
