Description: Coronet Limoges Plate Hand Painted by Albert Pink Morning Glory w/Gold 1906-1913 Elegant Decorative 8 3/4" PLATE from CORONET (George Borgfeldt) Limoges, France, HAND PAINTED by the Talented Artist ALBERT, Beautiful Large Classy MORNING GLORY BLOOMS of PINK & WHITE w/GREEN LEAVES, GOLD on Rim, from Latrille Freres circa 1899-1913, limits production time period to 1906-1913 DESCRIPTION: This plate was designed in a very classic pattern with hand painted pink & white morning glories with large blooms, green leaves, and vines by the talented artist, Albert. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The blooms are set on the background of the high white porcelain. There is raised paint to give depth to the painting. The trim around the rim is a strong band of gold of uniform width with a light blue curvy color band next to the gold. The color washes vary from yellow to pink to green. The plate is smooth rimmed. The back of the plate is the high white of the porcelain. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear to the paint or gold. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 8 3/4" and a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: George Borgfeldt operated a New York importing company specializing in high end decorated porcelain from Limoges, France and Bavaria, Germany. Borgfeldt established art studios in both France and Germany. The French Studio trademarked Coronet was located in Paris, but the white ware was manufactured in Limoges by various porcelain factories. Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, refers to the decorator mark on this plate as mark #1 and dates it to 1906-1920. It also has the underglaze maker mark #1 from Latrille Freres used in the 1899-1913 time period. Latrille Freres was founded in 1899 by the father of the Latrille brothers and was located in an old abbey which was converted to a porcelain manufacturing facility. J. Granger is noted to have been associated with the company from 1908-1913. From 1908-1914, Mavaleix was in business by himself. About 1920 (after WWI), Granger bought the Mavaleix business and used a different version of the Old Abbey mark. This limits the plate's production to the time period 1906-1913.
