Description: Covered Butter Dish James Tufts Quadruple Plate Antique American quadruple silver-plated butter dish, having pedestal base and domed cover, made by James W. Tufts of Boston, MA c. 1875-1890. The floral decorated base has four applied figural feet, two round handles and knife rest, also featuring figural flower and leaf motifs. Large domed cover is decorated with engraved floral patterns and rhomb form finial. Inside the dish, there is removable pierced plate. No monograms. This impressive dish is 8 1/2" wide across the handles, 5 1/2" in diameter and 7 1/2" tall. The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
